The thing is…most people don’t understand that looking directly at a gorilla and making eye contact is an aggressive move in ape language. Want to make friends with a gorilla? Sit with your back to the window. Slowly turn around and view the animal, look away. Do this several times. Usually, the gorilla will come forward to see you. Take an interesting object out of your pocket, start to show it to the animal. You’ve made a new friend.

Interesting. Not that I want to make friends with a gorilla, but I think even I know instinctively that pounding on the glass is a dealbreaker…
