One of the most important things I’ve done in my fitness routine is to throw out my scale and to start using Endomondo on my Android [available for your iPhone, too]. Endomondo uses the GPS in my phone to track my exercise and keeps a running log with stats like this I can view on their website [click image to enlarge]…
My scale is a LIAR — it rarely says what I hope it will say. Endomondo reminds me that if I do the right thing, the right results will follow and it shows me how my efforts are adding up. THIS inspires me — you may benefit from it, too!

Seriously, David — you probably know the feeling. You think you have a ‘good’ day and you get on the scale and it tells you you gained 2 lbs. That would be enough to depress me and take me off my program — maybe even console myself with more food. That, or, wow — you’ve lost weight! Let’s celebrate with some food. You deserve it!!! Sick…
Lately, I’ve been focusing on eating more live foods that actually satisfy my body instead of seeing what I could get away with. Meal frequency has gone up, portions have gone down, lots of water and tea instead of soda; lots of good changes overall. I don’t consult the scale to see how I feel; my ever-expanding clothes and things I haven’t been able to wear since 2003 are a much better indicator of my success!
PS I’ve lost 50lbs twice on Atkins; once I regained 40, once 25. Atkins was painful, made a roll with butter more appealing than sex and all the time in the back of my mind I ‘knew’ I was going to gain it all back because it wasn’t really sustainable or healthy. My attitude this time around is different. I’m in this one for the long haul — not a quick fix summer beach body makeover! It may take me years to get back to my college weight and I may never get there. Tools like Endomondo remind me that I need to do the right things every day and the right results WILL follow…
