What a sweet love song!

Bono sure seems to have a lot of haters but I’m not one of them. Lately, I’ve been listening to his audiobook Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story and I think it’s a masterpiece. Bono has a reputation for being a little full of himself, but I challenge anyone to maintain that opinion after reading/listening to this book!
I recommend the audio version. Hear Bono read the book in his own voice. This morning I pulled two great quotes out of Chapter 22 where Bono talks in part about bandmate Adam Clayton’s battle with alcohol. Here they are:

As a lover of the Beatles and Wings, I don’t think Linda ever got enough credit for dragging Paul out of the gutter and getting him back on his feet.
Whenย The Beatlesย broke up, Paul was depressed. For the past decade, his life had revolved around the band, and suddenly he found himself with nothing to do. He didn’t feel like writing music on his own, and he credits Linda for helping him get out of that dark spot. He said recently in an interview with Apple Music that he doesn’t want to imagine what would have happened if he hadn’t had her by his side to help him get over it. He got back to writing, made two amazing records, and then formed the bandย Wingsย with her. The song Maybe I’m Amazed on his debut albumย McCartneyย is dedicated to her, and it’s about how much he loves her and how grateful he is to her.

I love this documentary because it tells the story of Linda from the perspective of her daughter, documentarian Mary McCartney and her husband, legendary musician Sir Paul and the conversation between them is priceless!
In my mostly humble opinion, this series of commercials by George Parker is one of the best ever made. My personal favorite starts at about 1:10 minutes: “Our jukebox has every performance of every artist of every piece of music every recorded”. Effing brilliant! George recounts “Bob Metcalfe who invented the LAN at Xerox Parc, then went on to found 3Com, said it was the best explanation of what broadband can do that he had ever seen.”
20 years later, here’s an example: 120 different versions of Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’ in one place: Spotify. 200 years ago you had to be the Emperor of the Austro/Hungarian Empire to listen to Mozart on demand. Now, we’re all kings and queens of our playlists on the internet. “And I think to myself what a wonderful world!”
Rick Beato just updated and reposted his ‘what makes this song great’ featuring Christine McVie on Go Your Own Way. If you’ve never heard him deconstruct a song this is a good one to start with. Rumours is one of only 5 ‘double diamond’ albums (20 million copies sold) in the world and this song is one of the reasons why. Enjoy…

I don’t understand why this song didn’t go viral…
Main music man Rick Beato ranks the top 10 Beatles riffs. Do you think he got it right?
This is very similar to what I experienced at the ‘save the Yuppies‘ concert in San Francisco!
I’ve been a huge fan of Kate Bush since her epic duet with Peter Gabriel on the So album.
I’m thrilled to see one of her epic songs has recently made a comeback!
You can learn more about Kate here.
If you’re a music fan, you probably know Rick Beato, musician and YouTuber. In his first podcase he interviews Ted Gioia: ‘Ted Gioia is an American music critic and historian. He is author of eleven books, including Music: A Subversive History, The Jazz Standards: A Guide to the Repertoire, The History of Jazz and Delta Blues. He is also a jazz musician and one of the founders of Stanford University’s jazz studies program.’ If you like listening to two gearheads talk about music and the business of music, this one is worth the listen. Being totally honest, I don’t understand half the shit Rick says when he’s talking about music, but I still love his videos. Check out his channel at https://www.youtube.com/rickbeato.
