Happy Valentine’s Day – here’s a HUGE tip if you’re single or recently dating!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s either a great day to spend with your Love, or Singles Awareness Day. Either way, I hope that you are making the most of it this year.

I’m not writing to tell you to Love yourself today. I’m not writing to tell you how to have hot steamy romance this weekend. No, I have something else I want to talk about.

Here’s what’s on my mind today.

Last week I lead our bi-annual “Enter the Heart” retreat in Maui and my Love Jenna and I spent two whole days speaking on relationships to 30 folks.

One of my favorite things about getting to teach so often is that I am constantly having new thoughts and ideas come to me because people ask me questions I never thought about, which is SUPER cool.

Well, last week in Maui something flew out of my mouth that just hit me like a ton of bricks.

I was talking about the idea of dating and who an ideal partner would be. One of our core values is to never date just the potential in someone. It’s a recipe for disaster. There should be potential with a lot of action (even if the action isn’t bearing fruit yet).

So many people talk about what they are going to do, but rarely do it. So many people HAVE potential but have they REALIZED their potential?

Then we got into the idea of red flags. Especially when it comes to women’s intuition, red flags can be felt a mile away. Generally though, people stay because they make something else more important then the red flag. Perhaps it’s the excitement. The uncertainty. The variety. The seduction. Or maybe it’s that they just don’t want to be alone, so they lower their standards and just keep quiet about what they really think.

And then, as I was talking, this blurted out of my mouth.

DON’T TURN RED FLAGS INTO A PROJECT.

Have you ever thought, “Gee, if they just changed these 17 things THEN they’d be perfect?”

Congratulations, you’re a visionary. But that doesn’t mean you are in the right relationship. Save your vision for a business, a child or a hobby. Or your job.

You deserve someone who has arrived in their ability to be present, to Love you as best they can, to be as emotionally available as they can. You deserve it. And there’s no need to try to coax it out of them underneath the wounds, old stories and scars.

This is your romantic partner we are talking about, not your client. You are not their therapist, life coach or mother. You are their lover and you deserve someone who can show up for you in all ways. And promptly admit their mistakes.

So, do you want a project or do you want a Lover? It’s very hard to have both at the same time. I say this Valentine’s Day you deserve a real romantic partner.

Honestly, have you turned red flags into a project? How’s that working out for you? In the comments below, please let me know and let me know what you are going to do about it now.

I’m wishing you all the deepest Love and happiness today and every day. You deserve it.

As always, the action happens in the comments below, leave a comment and join the conversation! The TDL Community thrives in the comments and it’s a GREAT place to get support!

Lots of LOVE,

Mastin
