Be The Love You Are Looking For!

Robert Holden tells has a great perspective on love at The Daily Love that I wanted to share with you:

In my book Happiness NOW, I tell one of my favorite love stories. It’s an old Sufi tale of a conversation between Mulla Nasrudin and a good friend:

“I’m getting married on the morrow, Mulla,” announced his friend, smiling wide from ear to ear.

Mulla Nasrudin was quiet and thoughtful.

“Isn’t marriage wonderful, Mulla! It is quite the best! Have you ever considered getting married, Mulla?”

“In my youth I thought of nothing else,” sighed Mulla Nssrudin.  “I so wanted to find the perfect wife that I traveled the world searching for her. In Damascus, I met a woman who was beautiful, spiritual, and loving, but, alas, she had no worldly knowledge. In Isphahan, I met a woman who was beautiful, loving, and worldly, but, alas, she wasn’t interested in the spiritual life.”

“Where did you travel to next, Mulla?” asked his friend.

“I forget where, but I met a woman who was truly spiritual, loving, and worldly, but, alas, she wasn’t beautiful. Finally, I went to Cairo, and there, after much searching, I found the perfect wife. She was everything I had wanted her to be. She was perfect,” sighed Mulla Nasrudin.

“If she was so perfect, why did you not marry her, Mulla?” asked his friend.

“Alas,” said Mulla Nasrudin, shaking his head, “she was, unfortunately, looking for the perfect husband!”

Mulla Nasrudin is a clever teacher. His stories are really teachings of high truth.  In this story, Mulla teaches us that, as the law of attraction states, like attracts like.  Hence, if you are only looking for love, you will attract someone who is also only looking for love. Two people who are only looking for love will not find love when they meet each other. They may experience chemistry or infatuation, but not love.

If, however, you are committed to being the most loving person you know, you will attract someone who is committed to living on that wavelength too. And, when two people – who are committed to being the love they are looking for – finally meet, they will find love.

Today’s goal, then, is simply this: be the love you are looking for.

Heh, heh, heh… I have always heard I needed to ‘be the love’ I was looking for, but this great story illustrates why!
