I dug around on the net a bit It was reported in many conservative forums, but it was also reported by Frontline http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/mexico704/video/video_index.html so this story appears to be accurate.
There has always been migration during all of human history. The only difference is that now we have nation states controlling (somewhat) the flow of people across arbitrary boundaries. Until there is an equalization of opportunity and resources there will always be movement hither and yon.
