Fake news in the U.S. is as old as American journalism itself. We explore the trade-offs journalists have long faced between elitism and populism, and integrity and profit: Fake News: An Origin Story
This One Habit Transformed My Life
Financial security can be paid for 2 ways. Get a job or become an entrepreneur. Starting a business can be high risk. One habit I discovered changed that: This One Habit Transformed My Life
Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth: ‘The Hero’s Adventure’
“If the person doesn’t listen to the demands of his own spiritual and heart life, and insists on a certain program, you’re going to have a schizophrenic crack-up. The person has put himself off-center; he has aligned himself with a programmatic life, and it’s not the one the body’s interested in at all. And the world’s full of people who have stopped listening to themselves. In my own life, I’ve had many opportunities to commit myself to a system and to go with it, and to obey its requirements. My life has been that of a maverick; I would not submit”: Ep. 1: Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth — ‘The Hero’s Adventure’ | BillMoyers.com

Biting my lip
I’m an unabashed fan of Germany. Today they became the 4th team in the past 5 world cups to be eliminated in the Group Stage. Sux2beme…

Whatever the outcome of the game, it has already been determined. Unfortunately, I had an unavoidable meeting that coincided precisely with the game. I recorded the game on YouTube TV which allows me to watch the replay at 1.5x speed and I’m chewing my nails while sitting on pins and needles watching the game in fast motion.
Rather than risk hearing the outcome, I put my phone on airplane mode and now I’m just catching up with the outcome that everyone else knows. I wonder why Müller is not playing but I dare not try to find out because I might see a score! I can’t even click the notification icon in Gmail for fear I’ll see the outcome…
31 minutes in, Germany has not found or pressed an advantage. Commentators say the game is too narrow — right up the middle and predictable. KOR is handling GER easily. Shit!…

Drama, drama, drama
Most of us have an idea of what drama in our lives looks like, right? I mean it’s when you lose your shit, pull down the curtains, make yourself a dress and set the house on fire…or something to that effect. Read more: Drama, drama, drama
Being Authentic
“Be Authentic” But what does that really mean? The dictionary says ” true to one’s own personality, spirit, or character, genuine”. All of that seems pretty straightforward, huh? I mean when someone annoys you or betrays you or behaves in a way that you don’t think is right, it’s completely fine to “be authentic” and give them what they have coming to them, right? Whether it’s a piece of your mind, or your own brand of truth or candor or calling it for what it “is”. Eh…no: Being Authentic
“Toxic People” And Why You Need To Stop Saying That
“Toxic People”, “Toxic Person”, “They’re Toxic” You’ve seen these terms bandied around social media, books, workshops, you name it, they have very much become common language in our everyday conversations and environments. And that’s a problem. Why? Because, if you are using these terms, you’re just not thinking. Period: “Toxic People” And Why You Need To Stop Saying That

Can a Dysfunctional Family Become Functional?
You may be part of a dysfunctional family, but that does not mean you are powerless or that you have to suffer the consequences.
You learned today how it’s all a matter of priorities and thinking clearly.
You learned that, if love exists, everything is possible. You learned that even when there is no love and no fix for your dysfunctional family, there are still things you can do. It’s a matter of choosing your peace, because you deserve it.
Everything will be better if you apply this knowledge. If you talk to that problematic family member. If you help them see the harm they are doing. If you make sure they do change and treat you the way you need to be treated…
If you choose yourself over that toxic family member. If you refuse to justify the harm that others can do to yourself. If you realize the most important relationship you have is with yourself.
And lastly, that you also have to be aware of your actions and be open to criticism. Because we might be unknowingly harming others. And that would be us creating a dysfunctionality. Don’t allow it to happen.
Dysfunctional families are not impossible to fix. It just takes love, cooperation and responsibility.
But if you tried and those elements are not present, just choose yourself instead.

For Better or Worse: Looking at Intimate Relationships Though a Developmental Lens
Close and intimate relationships are fundamental to personal growth and maturity. To be valued by those whom we value, and to be understood by those closest to us is the psychological air promoting health and well-being. Consider the other end of the continuum of the warmth and responsiveness a significant relationship provides — abuse and neglect — and we can understand the depth of the core need of belonging.

Your body isn’t working as it should. Your thoughts are triggering you. It can feel like you’re in a foreign place.
How do you make friends with your body? How do you find peace within yourself?
Acceptance can come from mindfulness. Paying attention can put you back in the hear and now. Viewing your circumstances and feelings without judgment can give you a sense of ease.
We cannot control everything in our lives. For those who suffered trauma, this can be retraumatizing. We can feel helpless, afraid and out of control.
But we can also remember that we always have a choice about our attitude and how we view the circumstances of our lives.
As you read our top posts on addictions and relationships, practice acceptance. Accept what comes up and be compassionate towards yourself.
