I love the Blues and I frequently listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan or Eric Clapton channels on Pandora when I’m working. Here’s a fun take on the digital age that popped up in rotation…

What is the power of YouTube?
One of the powers of YouTube is to create commercials that people actually WANT to watch and distribute while avoiding the constraints of television advertising which people ignore anyway!

Janis Joplin’s final interview…
…presented in a unique way.
Janis sounded like a person who deeply understood some of the important lessons of life. Why then did she overdose on heroin and alcohol 4 days later? The wikipedia indicates that her manager believes “that Joplin had accidentally been given heroin that was much more potent than normal, as several of her dealer’s other customers also overdosed that week.” Who knows? I still love Janis and her amazing vocals…
Take a moment. …
Take a moment. Examine whose shouldās are running your life. Are the things you tell yourself you need to be doing true expressions of your legitimate goals, responsibilities, and commitments? Or have you wandered so far away from yourself that your life is no longer a genuine expression of who you are, and what you want, in your heart?
How many hours a week do you spend doing what you want to be doing or doing what you need to be doing to have what you wantāwhether thatās sobriety, a family, or the career thatās right for you? How many hours each week are spent doing what you think you should be doing, whether you need to or not?

Stormy Monday…
This may be the best Monday song ever! What do you think?
What are your favorite Monday songs? Here’s another of mine…
If anyone ever hurt me…
If anyone had ever hurt me, you know
The way I hurt myself
If someone had ever hurt me, you know
The way I hurt myself
Well, theyād be buried six feet under ground
Beyond the good Lordās help
Beyond the good Lordās help
There is something on my mind
something on my mind
Makes me feel
like I want to die
There is something on my mind
something on my mind
makes me want to die
Heard itās just a lie
Keeps me searching keeps me hoping keeps me praying
For just a little
just a little piece of mind
Something Iāve yet to find
searching for a little piece of mind
Well, Iām going to cast this evil
Way down in the deep blue sea
Well, Iām going to cast this evil
Way down in the deep blue sea
So that cold black dirty
cold black dirty water
Have it first over me
take this evil first over me
There’ll be some changes made…
Time for a new direction…
Foy Vance
I don’t know where @davidkanigan continually finds new artists with great sounds, I just know that he does and I try to listen to all of them…
āFoy Vance, 39, was born in the North Ireland town of Bangor, but his passion for traditional music was born in the southern states of America. As a child, Foy relocated with his father, a preacher, to the American Midwest settling in Oklahoma. With his father, Foy travelled the American South, widening his horizons and absorbing the rich musical traditions he was exposed to. Returning to Ireland some years later, Foy began writing his own music, deeply shaped by the sounds of his youth. Since those days, he has spent a considerable amount of time on the road, touring with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Michael Kiwanuka, Marcus Foster, Snow Patrol, and Ed Sheeran. Foy also scored Oscar-winning short-film The Shore with David Holmes, who collaborated with Vance on his 2012 Melrose EP. Foyās newest album, Joy Of Nothing, will be released this year. Tall Ships
This is the weekend…
Green Bay is celebrating the return of the Baylake Bank Tall Ship FestivalĀ®, once again expected to be one of the largest outdoor events in Northeast Wisconsin. Green Bay is one of only six American cities selected to host the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE* Great Lakes 2013.
This three-day maritime festival features ship tours and day-sail excursions on nine tall ships along the Wisconsin Public Service Tall Ship Boardwalk. Youāll love the food, entertainment, and interactive family activities and the live music throughout the day from the North Coast Marine Manufacturing Alliance Stage. Itās a fun summer weekend on the waterfront!
It was really cool to see 5 of the tall ships making their way up Lake Michigan toward Green Bay during lunchtime. The pictures don’t do them justice but it was a great time to reflect on our maritime heritage of days gone by. Click image to enlarge…
Komm gib mir deine Hand
So many people enjoyed the clip of the Beatles first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show that I thought I’d follow up with an even more obscure clip from the Beatles cartoon show [yes, there was one and I didn’t miss a Saturday morning!] of the lads singing “I Want to Hold Your Hand” auf deutsch:
How many of you are old enough to remember watching this live?
The U2 ‘Save the Yuppies’ Concert
My previous post made me think of this…
I was there. In the Wikipedia entry for the Album ‘Rattle and Hum’ it says:
The performance of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” is from the band’s impromptu “Save the Yuppies” concert in Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco, California on 11 November 1987. The video intersperses the performance of the song with footage from the band’s performance of “Pride” from the same show, during which Bono spray-painted “Rock and Roll Stops the Traffic” on the Vaillancourt Fountain. This caused a bit of controversy, and ultimately, the band paid to repair the damage and publicly apologized for the incident. The phrase “Rock and Roll Stops the Traffic” reappeared 18 years later in the video “All Because of You” when an unnamed fan appeared with the sign at 1:55 in the video.[12] It also reappeared in February 2009, when the band played on the rooftop of the BBC Radio studios in Langham Place…
Philip Lima, Baritone…
Philip and I have been friends for 30 years now; we were roommates at the Aetna Life & Casualty summer training program in 1983. Philip is a beautiful man with an even more beautiful voice. Here he is sharing his music with the Boys and Girls Club in Roxbury, MA… Continue reading “Philip Lima, Baritone…”

How High-Maintenance Relationships Affect Your Psyche
In the spirit of the upcoming ‘Twilight‘ movie, I would like to talk about the undead: vampires. More precisely, emotional vampires. Are there people in your life who just sap your emotional energy once they walk in the door? Do you feel totally spent after interacting with some people? There are vampires among us, and I am actually more frightened about sitting next to one at a dinner party than meeting Count Dracula himself.
My colleague Eli Finkel at Northwestern University conducted a very important series of studies on what he calls high-maintenance interactions. In essence, these studies are about social coordination, and how the lack of social coordination can deplete our ability to exert self-control.
Self-control is critical to everyday life. With high self-control, we can limit food temptations, complete difficult tasks at work, and, resist the urge to smack a co-worker when he/she is being a bit too condescending. Continue reading “How High-Maintenance Relationships Affect Your Psyche”
How Faith and Forgiveness Can Come in the Wake of Trayvon Martin
I am the latest Rabbi Evan Moffic fanboy — he actually stopped to comment on a post I didĀ [did I mention lately I <3 the internet?] curating his work this morning…
As I explore the body of his work online, I came across this post on a topic of current interest and I share his reasoned perspective here:
As President Obama said, the jury has spoken. The case has concluded. One side won, and another side lost. Yet, no one is happy. A 17-year-old boy is dead. Grieving parents will never be the same. What now?
Some want to continue the conflict. Facebook and Twitter are filled with words of vitriol and vengeance. Others, like Trayvon Martin‘s parents, have conveyed their sadness and hope. They have turned to faith not in the name of anger. They have turned to God in the name of healing. This morning Trayvon Martin’s mom tweeted, “Lord during my darkest hour I lean on you. You are all that I have. At the end of the day, God is still in control. Thank you all for your prayers and support.”Amen. There is a time for conflict. There is a time for healing. Now is the time for healing. What insights and support can our faith give us? Continue reading “How Faith and Forgiveness Can Come in the Wake of Trayvon Martin”
