How To Leave The Corporate World To Start A Wellness Business

“If I had known the extent of how much I didn’t know, I might have never started.” But isn’t that true of all of us? If we knew the true cost we would never start anything! Pink: “If there are 10,000 people in an arena, I can pick out that one person that is the brother that had to drive his sister. 9,999 people are having a good time, I can pick out the one that isn’t.

Use Location-Based Reminders to Break Bad Habits

Everyone talks about how bad smartphones can be but things like ‘location based reminders’ can be very useful, like this: Hey, Siri. Remind me to do X when I go home or Remind me to do Y when I get in the car…

Use location-based reminders on your phone to remind yourself not to fall for your bad habits. As you stumble away from your favorite bar, get a reminder to go back and close out your tab. Or as you stumble toward it in the first place, get a reminder that you’re trying to drink less. Set anti-reminders at an ex’s place, a pricey restaurant, or the store you shop at too often.

Mary Oliver on Love and Its Necessary Wildness

In praise of the “invisible and powerful and uncontrollable and beautiful and possibly even unsuitable.”

“HOW DO I LOVE YOU?

How do I love you?
Oh, this way and that way.
Oh, happily. Perhaps
I may elaborate by

demonstration? Like
this, and
like this and

no more words now”

The Real History of Columbus Day

Every year, on the second Monday of October, the U.S. celebrates Columbus Day, which commemorates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492. Yet he sailed for the Spanish, landed in the Caribbean, and was kind of a jerk. So, uh, why is this a U.S. holiday again?

How to Change Your Brain With Mindfulness

Mindfulness is having a moment. A trending moment, specifically: the hashtag #mindfulnessinamerica is currently trending on Twitter, thanks to the Mindfulness in America conference going on as these words are being typed. But even before Jewel and Anderson Cooper joined forces, meditation (and specifically mindfulness meditation) had become increasingly popular, thanks to apps such as Headspace and studies touting the lasting effects of mindfulness on the mind and body. But are these apps really as effective as serious meditation training? And do these studies’ findings have any basis in reality? Suspicious of Fake News on Facebook? Use the New Context Button

Facebook has a fake news problem. Its most recent trending news misstep promoted misinformation from anonymous messageboard 4chan about the Las Vegas shooting. To combat the spread of fake news (and growing backlash against the company), the social network is testing out a new feature enabling users to tell the difference themselves between an article from a trustworthy publisher, and one that’s a bit more suspect than usual, by hitting a “more information” button. Badass Trucker Nails the Gnarliest Right-Hand Turn You’ve Ever Seen

Those towering wind turbines that are slowly starting to cover countrysides around the world don’t just show up overnight—and they’re definitely not dropped in place by a helicopter. They arrive on trucks in pieces—staggeringly massive pieces—that test the skills of drivers navigating roads not designed to accommodate 200-foot long trailers. Can Christian Pulisic become the first U.S. soccer superstar?

It’s already happening!

In case you haven’t heard of him, here’s some data from the Wikipedia:

Christian Mate Pulisic (Croatian: Kristijan Mate Pulišić [kri:sti:jan mǎːte pu:li:ʃitɕ]; born September 18, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga as well as the United States national team.[5][6] Pulisic is considered by many to be the top American soccer prospect,[7] and is the youngest player to represent the senior national team in a FIFA World Cup qualifier. His rapid rise with the U.S. youth national teams has been mirrored by his rapid rise through the Borussia Dortmund academy, where he played just 15 games before being brought into the first team during the 2015–16 winter break.[8]

In April 2016, he became the youngest foreigner to score a goal in the Bundesliga.[9] Later that month, he became the youngest player ever to score two goals in the Bundesliga.[10] On May 28, 2016, he scored in an international friendly against Bolivia to become the youngest player in the modern era to score a goal for the United States at 17 years 253 days old. On September 2, 2016, he became the youngest American player to score a goal in World Cup qualifying history at 17 years, 349 days.
