Have you ever wondered why music can affect your mood? A mournful tune can move us to tears moments after we were happy and not sad at all, or an upbeat tune can pop the gloomy balloon around us and make us feel more cheerful than before. Well, perception is nine tenths of reality and, when it comes to our emotions, the songs we listen to can actually prove to alter our perception of emotions.

Good advice from practical New Englanders…
We all feel lost sometimes. Just because people don’t seem this way on the outside, doesn’t mean they don’t feel these emotions inside. It’s hard when you’re surrounded by people your own age who all seem like they have their life together, but in reality, they are just really good at faking it. Even the people who are successful now once felt lost in life.
If you let go a little, you will have a little happiness. If you let go a lot, you will have a lot of happiness. If you let go completely, you will be completely happy.

What comes to mind when you think about self-care? Do you associate self-care with being selfish? Or do you see the benefits, but feel you’re coming up short in sticking with your own plan? Perhaps you find yourself wishing: “If I could just stick with a regular self-care practice, then everything would feel right in my world.”
Whatever comes up for you when you think about self-care, imagine what it might be like to realize you already have a solid self-care practice – you just have to recognize it. What I am talking about is shifting the way you think about self-care to appreciate yourself for everything you ARE doing on a regular basis.
Often what is missing in our self-care practice is self-awareness. When we grow our awareness of everything we already do, we begin to appreciate the gifts we regularly give ourselves.
Here are 3 easy tricks to help you adopt a self-care mindset that will stick:

Life is a balance of holding on and letting go. We strive to make the right choice but how do we know when it is truly time to let go and move on? Romantic relationships, jobs, even places we live have an expiration date. Sometimes we hold on to things that aren’t working out of fear we won’t find something better. Perhaps our greatest fear is the unknown, which is why so many of us grasp, hold on and manipulate our situations trying to control our surroundings. But the outcome is always the same: more pain, immense frustration and ginormous guilt and blame.
