7515622094_a2c0156278_zA common complaint about not doing meditation is a lack of time. Actually meditating adds time to your life because it helps bring order and direction.

1.  From Smitty at havingcouragetochange:

Meditating… on What It Means to Meditate….

Meditation. What is in it for me?

Science tells me that by using some form of meditation each day, I can change my brain structure. Wow.  Let ‘s get started now, then.

What is meditation? In program we each get to answer that in our own way.

It helps me to remember that every action can serve a spiritual purpose, when I designate it as so for me.

Our Serenity Prayer is an easy place for me to start. Between meetings I can use it. I can take myself  to a quiet place, close my eyes, and repeat each words of the Serenity prayer to myself in a gentle voice. Serenity. Courage. Wisdom.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day. Thank you to the Irish who have given us William Butler Yeats, James Joyce, C.S. Lewis, Frank McCourt, Bono along with millions of good and kind people.  And, of course, Riverdance.  Here’s a 2-minute clip of one of my favorite performances. (Can’t seem to get enough of this…)

dancer in wind gif

For Equilibrium, a Blessing:

Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore,
May the relief of laughter rinse through your soul.

As the wind loves to call things to dance,
May your gravity by lightened by grace.

Like the dignity of moonlight restoring the earth,
May your thoughts incline with reverence and respect.

As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.

As silence smiles on the other side of what’s said,
May your sense of irony bring perspective.

As time remains free of all that it frames,
May your mind stay clear of all it names.

May your prayer of listening deepen enough
to hear in the depths the laughter of god.”

"silhouette and sunset" ~ sld

(a letter of self-worth)

Yes you, you who thinks you are not enough.

You who tries tirelessly
to do everything you can to show that you are deserving of love,
worthy to be here in this world,
but always worrying that it is not enough.
You that feels it is what you are able to do that shows your value instead of who you are. This letter is for you.

Because here is the thing –
the day you were born the world sang;
for never before was there anyone like you, magnificent you,
just for being.

So now as you try to fill your days doing things that make you feel valuable the truth is:
your true value is in being the one and only you.

No matter your successes,
your failures,
the way you choose to live your life. You are Enough.

I know you think that all…

The God Whom I Love Is Inside

Inside this clay jug there are canyons and pine mountains,

and the maker of canyons and pine mountains!

All seven oceans are inside and hundreds of millions of stars.

The acid that tests gold is there, and the one who judges jewels.

And the music from the strings that no one touches,

and the source of all water.

If you want the truth, I will tell you the truth:

friend, listen: the god whom I love is inside.

Why should we two ever want to part?

Be Here Now: How Major Surgery Changed My Outlook

herbs-spring-energy[1]

Harper Spero shares this story:

I grew up in a family that strongly believes in the concept “be here now,” a saying from spiritual teacher Ram Dass, and though my family isn’t a religious one, it still resonates deeply with us.

It was January 2012, and over the past three months I’d developed a severe cough—similar to what one gets after a three-pack-a-day habit. In those 12 weeks my general practitioner had diagnosed me with bronchitis and pneumonia, and prescribed three medications and inhalers, none of which did anything for me. My mom, like any incredible Jewish mother, kept mentioning that it was time to call the doctor for further review. Continue reading “Be Here Now: How Major Surgery Changed My Outlook”

Out of the Cave

Morning-Reverence-DSC02876

When you have been

at war with yourself

for so many years that

you have forgotten why,

when you have been driving

for hours and only

gradually begin to realize

that you have lost the way,

when you have cut

hastily into the fabric,

when you have signed

papers in distraction,

when it has been centuries

since you watched the sun set

or the rain fall, and the clouds,

drifting overhead, pass as flat

as anything on a postcard;

when, in the midst of these

everyday nightmares, you

understand that you could

wake up,

you could turn

and go back

to the last thing you

remember doing

with your whole heart:

that passionate kiss,

the brilliant drop of love

rolling along the tongue of a green leaf,

then you wake,

you stumble from your cave,

blinking in the sun,

naming every shadow

as it slips.
