Ryan Holiday, a prominent author and proponent of Stoicism, found himself banned from speaking about the philosophy at the U.S. Naval Academy due to concerns over his unorthodox interpretations and his emphasis on certain controversial aspects of Stoicism. The academy typically seeks to maintain a strict adherence to traditional military values and teachings, which may not fully align with Holiday’s modern interpretations.

Experiences donโt just bring joyโthey shape identity and deepen connections. Science explains why what you buy can change how you feel about yourself and others.
The article “Why Your Best Purchase Is One You Canโt Return” discusses how experiences, rather than material possessions, significantly influence our sense of identity and interpersonal connections. It emphasizes that the joy derived from experiences adds meaning to our lives and fosters deeper relationships. The author highlights scientific explanations behind the emotional benefits of experiential spending, suggesting that such purchases can enhance our self-perception and strengthen our bonds with others, contrasting with the fleeting satisfaction provided by physical items.

Bernice King Shares Wise Advice For Navigating The Trump Era
My friend RJ shared this with me…
Bernice King is dedicated to the fight. In a recent Facebook post, she shared some very valuable advice as we try to navigate forward in the “45” era:
1. Donโt use his name; EVER (45 will do)
2. Remember this is a regime and heโs not acting alone;
3. Do not argue with those who support himโit doesnโt work;
4. Focus on his policies, not his orange-ness and mental state;
5. Keep your message positive; they want the country to be angry and fearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow;
6. No more helpless/hopeless talk;
7. Support artists and the arts;
8. Be careful not to spread fake news. Check it;
9. Take care of yourselves; and
10. Resist!

So very zen…
Wisdom is all around us. Sometimes it appears in unexpected places like when the coach of the University of Notre Dame football team teaches the media about the first and second arrow…
First and second arrow?
โIn life, we canโt always control the first arrow. However, the second arrow is our reaction to the first. The second arrow is optional.โ

Wisdom for Waking Up to Your World
“One of my favorite subjects of contemplation is this question: โSince death is certain, but the time of death is uncertain, what is the most important thing?โ You know you will die, but you really donโt know how long you have to wake up from the cocoon of your habitual patterns. You donโt know how much time you have left to fulfill the potential of your precious human birth. Given this, what is the most important thing?
Every day of your life, every morning of your life, you could ask yourself, โAs I go into this day, what is the most important thing? What is the best use of this day?โ At my age, itโs kind of scary when I go to bed at night and I look back at the day, and it seems like it passed in the snap of a finger. That was a whole day? What did I do with it? Did I move any closer to being more compassionate, loving, and caring โ to being fully awake? Is my mind more open? What did I actually do? I feel how little time there is and how important it is how we spend our time.”ย Source: Pema Chรถdrรถn’s Wisdom for Waking Up to Your World | Lionโs Roar
