My mother sent me this…

…I think she’s bitter about me living in Wisconsin!

A boy and his dog…

…enjoying one of the first nice days of spring!

Bonus!

And if it’s all too much to bear, take your cue from…

Me? I prefer my black cat but the idea’s the same…

Sitting in Judgment

But we all have the same tools as that Dalai Lama; mindfulness, choice, radical acceptance…

I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.
– Dalai Lama

And that’s why he’s the Dalai Lama.  And I sit stewing in judgment.

Don’t Rest after Your First Victory

Don’t rest after your first victory because if you fail the second time, more lips will be waiting to say that your first victory was just luck.

The Wind

Ahhh, one of my favorites! Thank you, David…

Live & Learn's avatarLive & Learn

I lift my head from my reading.

To watch.  To listen. To inhale.

High winds from the northwest swaying the tall pines.  The gusts rustling the branches.  The tree tops whistling.  The sweet smell of tree resin drifting over the fence from the neighbor’s pruning.  It was yesterday, Sunday afternoon.  I was lounging in the backyard. Licking my wounds from my long run.  Tucked under a comforter…seeking protection against chilling 20 mph winds.  I put Knausgaard down and start thumbing through blog posts. “Wind” synchronicity switches on.

First Thomas Merton: “No writing on the solitary, meditative dimensions of life can say anything that has not already been said better by the wind in the pine trees.”

“Child, child, do you not see?  For each of us comes a time when we must be more than we are” — Lloyd Alexander

Well the last few weeks have brought with them a frenetic level of activity reminiscent of earlier chapters in my life.  Facilitating training sessions at two law firms; attending a national convention where I will be moderating a panel  on effective communication between leaders in practice offices and their counterparts at ‘headquarters’; discussions on employee engagement at another company and then back to another professional services firm to chair forums on a number of issues all rolling up under the header of ‘organizational dynamics’.  Ok, stop yawning – I find this stuff pretty fascinating, and the people I meet as a result, even more interesting and engaging.  It’s the people – I’m just so damn drawn to the people.

So somewhere around the end of May…

Dolphins Galore!

Incredible footage of a one thousand strong dolphin pod. You might want to turn down the sound a little to drown out the non-essential comments by people.

(You are allowed to press the mute button to enjoy the view in awe and silence….)

The huge pod of about 1,000 Common Dolphins went on an incredible flight through the ocean off the coast of Dana Point, Southern California, which has the greatest density of oceanic dolphins per square mile of anywhere on earth. This is a very rare occurrence.

The line of wild dolphins could be seen from miles away churning up the water to the delight of whale watching passengers and crew aboard Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari.
