Death is a favor to us, But our scales have lost their balance. The impermanence of the body Should give us great clarity, Deepening the wonder in our senses and eyes Of this mysterious existence we share And are surely just traveling through. Continue reading “Deepening The Wonder”
Are you hot? Cool off!
Here in Algoma, WI, we hear rumors of heat waves in other parts of the country…
But in ‘Penguin City’ we just scratch our head and put on a jacket…
Come on over if you need to cool off for awhile. There’s plenty of cool for all of us [although we are expecting a heat wave this weekend!]…
The Best Examples Of People Caught Cheating On Facebook
Have you seen the website dogshaming? For some reason, it’s wildly popular. People assuage their feelings of anger against their dogs by posting pictures of them along with the ‘crime’ they have committed. Here are a few examples:
Made me wonder why some enterprising gal hasn’t launched a site called ‘manshaming’ but for right now, this will have to do:
According to the super-reliable Internet news source known as Reddit, this guy was just spotted in the Arundle Hills Mall in Maryland. That same journalistic authority (we’ll stop blindly trusting Reddit when CNN does) says that pad of paper in his left hand (screen right, geniuses) is for collecting 500 signatures to get his girlfriend to take him back. Sources (nope, the same source) also claim that a.) the girlfriend was standing in the corner in a green camouflage jacket glaring at him and b.) he started getting very friendly with a “raven-haired beauty” who suggested he shouldn’t have to submit himself to this humiliation.
Cheating is really stupid. Cheating in the Age of Facebook is really, really stupid. Cheating on your significant other when they know your Facebook password is really, really, really, really stupid. Everyone in this list did the first two stupid things, but it’s really amazing how many people put in the extra lack of effort needed to go full stupid. Hopefully you’ll read this and feel good about what a decent person you are for not being a horrible person, or maybe you’ll think of something creative to do to someone who’s wronged you. Alternatively, you might get really freaked out and decide that now’s a good time to break it off with that loser on the side and delete all your texts, calls, emails, and Facebook messages. That would be a good idea.

Just inch yourself out of that back line. Yes. Go. Now.
:-D
Great people do things before they’re ready. They do things before they know they can do it. And by doing it, they’re proven right. Because, I think there’s something inside of you—and inside of all of us—when we see something and we think, ‘I think I can do it, I think I can do it. But I’m afraid to.’ Bridging that gap, doing what you’re afraid of, getting out of your comfort zone, taking risks like that—THAT is what life is. And I think you might be really good. You might find out something about yourself that’s special. And if you’re not good, who cares? You tried something. Now you know something about yourself. Now you know. A mystery is solved. So, I think you should just give it a try. Just inch yourself out of that back line. Step into life. Courage. Risks. Yes. Go. Now.”

Charles Bradley
Nothing like good blues…
Charles Bradley, 65, was born in Gainesville, Florida. He was raised by his grandmother until the age of eight when, while meeting his mother for the first time, she told him that she wanted him to come live with her in Brooklyn, NY. In 1962, his sister took him to the Apollo Theater to see James Brown perform. Bradley was so inspired by the performance that he began to practice mimicking Brown’s style of singing and stage mannerisms at home. When he was a young teen, Bradley ran away from home and lived on the streets and in subway cars for two years. Later, he enlisted in Job Corps which eventually led him to Maine to work as a chef. One time while working, someone told him he looked like James Brown. Yet when asked if he could sing, he was too afraid to admit it. Eventually he did, however, overcome this fear and performed five or six times with…

Sixty-six years ago today, the seemingly everyday, innocent thoughts of a teen girl were published. But they weren’t so everyday: they were the thoughts of Anne Frank, a 13-year-old in a unique position to make the world understand what it was like to have to hide your entire existence in exchange for a mere chance at surviving the Nazi regime. Her diary has since sold more than 30 million copies and has been translated into 67 languages. If you haven’t read The Diary of a Young Girl in a while (or even if you have), here are 10 things you should know.

Kodaline
David, get off the internet and get outside!!! Thanks for the music…
Kodaline are a Dublin-based Irish alternative rock quartet. In December 2012, the BBC announced that Kodaline had been nominated for the Sound of 2013 poll – a poll which surveys music critics and industry figures to find the most promising new music talent.
For Kodaline, music isn’t just music. “It’s therapy,” says singer Steve Garrigan. “When we write music, the first thing we think of is, it’s therapy for us. Then we think of how we can use that feeling to touch as many people as possible.”
Music should have a purpose, you know, – says Steve, Our purpose is honesty.
Steve, Mark and drummer Vinny May – all aged 22 and 23 – have been working towards this moment for much of their young lives. Growing up in houses just two minutes away from each other in Swords, Steve and Mark met aged eight, when they were the only boys in the school choir. “We…
