“Ich Bin Ein Berliner”
Myth: John F. Kennedy blundered in one of his most famous speeches, saying in German “I am a jelly-filled doughnut” instead of what he meant (in the figurative sense) “I am a person from Berlin”. via John F. Kennedy’s Statement “Ich Bin Ein Berliner” was Not Interpreted as “I am a Jelly-Filled Doughnut”.
Hmmm. As a German major in college, I have been guilty of spreading this myth therefore I am confession my ‘guilt’ in public along with the correction. Follow the ‘via’ link if you’d like to know the rest of the story. In the meantime, enjoy the speech if you’re a history buff like me…

…on Refreshing Yourself
“There’s a “refresh” button you can click on the computer when you’re on-line. It makes the computer operate more efficiently.
Sometimes we get a little sluggish, too. We’ve been pushing too hard. Mulling the same thoughts over and over. Doing the same things over and over. Sometimes we need a change of scenery. Sometimes we need to refresh our thoughts with prayer, meditation, a few words from a friend, or spending some time with a good book.
Maybe it’s our bodies that need refreshing. We need a cold beverage, a brisk walk, a nap, or a hot shower.
Maybe we need a bigger refreshment: a weekend at a spa, a vacation. Even if our budget is low, we can pitch a tent in a park and take in the refreshing beauty of the world around us.
Look around. The world abounds with refreshments. The next time you get bogged down, stop pushing so hard. Do what you need to do to become efficient and operate with ease.
Refresh yourself.
God, help me understand the power of taking the time to refresh myself. Then help me stop thinking about it and actually do it.” via April 26: Refresh Yourself.
Six degrees of aggregation
“Of the many and conflicting stories about how The Huffington Post came to be—how it boasts 68 sections, three international editions (with more to come), 1.2 billion monthly page views and 54 million comments in the past year alone, how it came to surpass the traffic of virtually all the nation’s established news organizations and amass content so voluminous that a visit to the website feels like a trip to a mall where the exits are impossible to locate—the earliest and arguably most telling begins with a lunch in March 2003 at which the idea of an online newspaper filled with celebrity bloggers and virally disseminated aggregated content did not come up.” via Six degrees of aggregation : CJR.
Good stuff!
Ever heard that voice that whispers, “you’re a fraud”?
I think we all have at one time or another. When you’re insecure and don’t want anyone to know, that sly voice whispers words that belittle and make us want to be invisible.
Then there’s the voice that lifts you up. Perhaps even higher than you feel you deserve. The voice that calls out the best in you and says “You is kind, you is smart, you is important.” (That was my favorite line in the movie, The Help. You have to love Abileen.)
I’ve noticed something about people that are the real deal. That are successful in every sense of the word. They build people up.
I remember the first time I was invited to “run with the big dogs”. I was about 23 years old and attending a sales convention as a top performer. I got invited to…
