Dog Days Cat Nights

Dan Piraro writes:

I’ve lived with cats and with dogs and I like them both, but for very different reasons. Cats are much easier house guests since they don’t mind being left alone, they don’t have to be walked, and they don’t require too much attention. Unless you object to house guests who shred your furniture with their claws. Dogs are better if you want an excuse to get outside everyday whether it’s freezing cold and raining or not, if you like to play fetch and other games with non-human animals, and if you want a lot of one-on-one face time with someone who understands your  language but can’t speak a word of it. They both have their benefits and most people find life more enjoyable with a companion animal or twelve.

You Can’t Force People…

You can’t force people to stay in your life. Staying is a choice, so be thankful for people who choose you.

Todd Lohenry‘s insight:

People are unmanageable. However, one can always work at trying to be the type of person who is ‘staywithable’… :-D

Where You Are Is the Perfect Place to Start

Prancing around in our comfort zones is great for stroking the ego but not so much for growing and evolving. Stumble, fail, fall flat on your face—all proof that you’re doing something right.

How The Heart Heals

mimijk's avatarWaiting for the Karma Truck

“And thus the heart will break, yet brokenly live on” — George Gordon Byron

I struggle to describe this week.  All of the adjectives in my  mind seem to collide with one another in a frenetic game of bumper cars.  Contrasting realities – awful, horrific, mind-numbing, tragic, senseless, obscene, heartbreaking; life-affirming, connectedness, heroic, powerful, humbling, breathtaking, faithful.

Some people don’t do well with lots of stimuli – I’m one of them.  It’s why I hate the mall.  Too much going on that is competing for my attention and focus.  This week makes a trip to the mall look positively mundane.

I was in the city on 9/11;  in the Sears Tower (as it was called then – now the Willis Tower) two days later and flew to the Library Tower in LA thereafter.  My mom thought the firm was asking too much and was a wreck while I was gone…

Do we notice there are parts of ourselves

that can never be accessed?

We are a mystery beyond our own comprehension.

How can I judge myself?

How can I judge you?

If light were cast within, would our mental illumination reveal

shadows of hypocrisy?

Can we bear to see ourselves in this light?

Softened light need not blind us.

People Hate You For 1 [or more] Of 3 Reasons…

People hate you for 1 of 3 reasons. 1.) They hate themselves 2.) They want to be you 3.) They see you as a threat

Todd Lohenry‘s insight:

Are there any other reasons you can think of? I think unforgiveness may be one but the bottom line is still true…

The Liberating Truth Behind Happiness

FinerMinds writes:

With most of us constantly projecting our minds to the future, or re-living the dusty roads of the past, are we ever really able to experience complete joy in a moment – or authentic happiness – if our minds are constantly somewhere else?

In this 5-minute video, Sam Harris, author, philosopher and neuroscientist, takes you on a thought-provoking journey forcing you to consider how you’d feel about your life if this very moment was your last; making you realize how obsolete the events of the past or the future really are.
