Try to see yourself the way your best and wisest friends see you. When you meet with failure, your best and wisest friends may be concerned, but the beauty of who you are doesn’t shine any less brightly in their eyes. And when you meet with success, your best and wisest friends may be happy for you, but the beauty of who you are doesn’t shine any more brightly in their eyes. They love you for who you are, not what you have managed to accomplish. And so should you. One of the Buddha’s disciples once asked, “Is it true that admirable friendship is half of the holy life?” The Buddha said, “Don’t say that.
